Easy ways to eat healthier
- Drink a glass of orange juice for breakfast
- Add a chopped banana or berries to your cereal or yoghurt
- Start your meal with a slice of melon or half of a grapefruit
- Eat an apple instead of crisps as a snack, or dried fruits instead of sweets
- Indulge in a smoothie – mix low-fat (or soy) milk with almost any fruit you choose – blackberries, bananas, strawberries or melon, depending on the season and your fancy
- Have at least two types of vegetables (not including potatoes) with your main meal
- Make sure half of the plate is used for vegetables
- Soups – using a tomato or any other vegetable is a good base that will help you to get your daily vegetable intake
- In addition to five portions a day, it's best to add five different colours for greater variety
