Raising the quality of life
Our strategy is to partner with reputable NGOs, and other organisations which have technical expertise and infrastructure, in raising the quality of life of people in our operating environment. Some of these include WaterAid, UNICEF, and Sight Savers International. UCAP covers five (5) major areas which are:
Water/Hygiene
Rural dwellers continue to benefit from Unilever Nigeria's donation to WaterAid, an international NGO working on the provision of potable water, latrines, sanitation and hygiene education in Plateau and Bauchi states, Nigeria. The Unilever/UNICEF School Handwashing Campaign is also an initiative of the company to inculcate the right hygiene habits in school pupils.
Education
In demonstration of Unilever's commitment to the development and education of the Nigerian child, we make an annual donation to UNICEF. In addition, we participate as a corporate organisation in their annual charity walk aimed at raising funds. We also host educational visits by pupils and students in our different factories and provide information for research.
Health
The campaign against HIV/AIDS and prevention of blindness are our priorities in this area. Our objectives on HIV/AIDS are to educate people, raise awareness levels and ultimately prevent the spread of the disease. Work on the prevention of blindness is done via a partnership with Sight Savers International on the eradication of trachoma in Sokoto state, Nigeria.
Donations/Scholarships
Unilever donates money and products to charity homes, schools and other organisations which are in need of help and stand to benefit from our donations. The company also sponsors events beneficial to the communities.
Brand initiatives
Our brand initiatives aim at adding vitality to life in the communities in which we operate. Some of these initiatives include our Nutrition and Dental Health Care Campaign, Live, Learn, Laugh Campaign, and the Pears Hospital Campaign.
