Water
Water, after oxygen, is most important to life. Collaborating with WaterAid, Country Women Association of Nigeria (COWAN) and Women In Nigeria (WIN), Unilever Nigeria helps to provide this life line to rural communities in Plateau State through provision of wells.
In year 2005 alone, our Water Management and Advocacy Campaigns which touched over 100,000 lives, had hygiene education and provision of latrines as part of its package.
Hygiene
A very bold step was taken on hygiene with the launch of our School Hand Washing Campaign in year 2005. This campaign, which would add Vitality to the lives of about a million school pupils directly and through them to millions of others who are members of their families, is aimed at inculcating the habit of hand washing at appropriate times.
This habit would help to reduce the incidence of gastro-intestinal disorders which are mostly results of poor hand washing habits. The campaign is aimed at the prevention this infection, thereby helping the pupils and their family members feel good and get more out of life.
The campaign, a collaboration with UNICEF, Federal and States Ministries of Health and Education would cost Unilever Nigeria N78.6 Million over a three year (2005-2007) period.
